USCG Recognizes CTC’s M/V Bill Stile Crew

On November 3rd, 2017, the crew onboard the M/V Bill Stile was recognized by the United States Coast Guard for actions taken on June 29, 2017. On this date, the M/V Bill Stile was transiting northbound on the Ohio River. Having just departed the Hannibal Lock and Dam, the Captain observed a person clinging to an overturned kayak and waving his arm 1500 feet above the dam and drifting dangerously closer. Quickly recognizing the need to provide assistance, the captain alerted the crew and with no hesitation they sprang into action and launched their skiff towards the dam and the stranded kayak-er. Retrieving the kayak-er from the water the crew contacted the lock-master at Hannibal Lock and Dam who then contacted the paramedics. Fearing for the kayak-er who had been in the water for over an hour, the crew brought him back to the boat, and gave him warm coffee and blankets to warm him up. The paramedics soon arrived and transported the kayak-er for additional care.
