Charles K. Minton, President, issued the following statement today on behalf of Campbell Transportation Company:
On behalf of Campbell Transportation Company and its employees, I wish to thank everyone for their patience and understanding following the tragic incident on April 6th. That most unfortunate mishap has resulted in a missing coworker and has brought tremendous personal anguish to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been affected by this incident.
At this point, just one day after the incident, we want to make clear what the company has been doing and will continue to do in our effort to determine what happened:
1. We are conducting a vigorous internal investigation and we are cooperating completely with the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities in their investigations. While the investigations continue we will not comment or speculate on the cause of the incident.
2. Our immediate concern continues to be assisting the Coast Guard’s search and recovery efforts for our coworker. This critical and potentially dangerous operation is being undertaken as quickly as possible.
3. At the request of the coworker’s family, we are not releasing his name nor are we discussing any of the details surrounding the incident.
We wish to thank all of the emergency responders, as well as the members of the river industry, for their prompt and invaluable assistance in conducting search and rescue operations.
Campbell Transportation Company is proud of its heritage and the reputation it has earned in the river transportation industry over many years. We are deeply grieved by the events of April 6, 2009 and we are committed to dealing with its aftermath in an honest, sincere and forthright manner that is consistent with our principles as individuals and our standards as a company.
