Campbell Transportation Company Inc. (CTC) and its wholly owned subsidiary C&C Marine Maintenance Company (C&C), Houston, Pa., recently expanded its network of marine service operations along the Upper Ohio River and added environmental, industrial and tankerman services to its businesses with the acquisition of DTC Marine and Environmental Services (DTC).

DTC provided harbor and fleeting services, vessel repair and tankerman services, tank barge cleaning and steaming services along with marine and industrial environmental cleaning and remediation services from its operations based in Congo, W.Va. The purchase was finalized April 15.

The newly renamed C&C Congo facility, located at Mile 47.3 in the New Cumberland pool, will expand CTC’s harbor and fleeting services and is located in the same pool as the C&C Georgetown repair facility, located at Mile 39.0 at Georgetown, Pa.  The C&C Congo facility will provide an additional 200 barges of fleeting capacity, will be the base of operations for the two newly acquired harbor boats, the mvs. Russ Mobley and Harmar, and “makes it possible for CTC to consolidate our tank barge activity at C&C Congo and keep the dry cargo barge work at C&C Georgetown,” said CTC chairman Peter Stephaich.

Stephaich went on to say that CTC plans to move a 2,100-ton drydock to the C&C Congo facility and plans to expand the  the vessel repair and tankerman operations at the site.

Stephaich further stated that CTC will be offering employment to all the DTC employees, which number about 50. Stephaich said previous owner Bob Reed will assist with the transition and stay on for a year, while the former DTC management group will have the following responsibilities at the C&C Congo facility:

Melvin Oliver, Manager of Marine Services
Brian Six, Manager of Environmental Services
Jeff Shaw, Shipyard Operations Manager, C&C Congo Operations
Brian Gibbs, Manager of Glycol & Boiler Plant Operations
Brian Hunt, Manager of Special Projects
Dawn Shaw, Accounting Supervisor

In addition to the C&C Georgetown and now C&C Congo facilities along the Ohio River, C&C Marine Maintenance operates repair facilities at Wellsburg and Point Pleasant, W. Va., and on the Monongahela River it has a repair facility at Clairton and a construction/shipyard at Dunlevy, Pa. In all, the company has six (6) shipyard/repair facilities that include seven (7) floating drydocks (the largest being the 2100-ton dock that measures 150 x 90 feet, 75 feet between wing walls) and a six (6) cradle 650-ton marine ways capable of drydocking three (3) vessels at one time. It recently added a 1,800-ton drydock at Georgetown, built a new 10,000 sq.ft. fabrication shop at Dunlevy and has  a 1600-ton floating drydock and two (2) 1200HP harbor vessels currently under construction for late 2011 delivery.

In addition to its marine, industrial and tankerman services that are based from the shipyard/repair facilities located along the Upper Ohio River, Campbell Transportation performs contract and “tramp” marine transportation services, harbor and fleeting services, marine crane services and environmental services throughout the Ohio River region.
